  • CATEGORY: Monthly Tutorial

The 2nd Monthly Tutorial on the theme “For all this effort, why we get so little on progress?” was held on May 21st at the Komaba Research Campus, the University of Tokyo.

Gen Fukushima, Rugby World Cup 2019 Organizing Committee Ticketing & Marketing Manager, gave out a lecture titled “Logical Thinking & Project Management.” From the grass root level of building baby nurseries in local areas to national level of coordinating industry policy between Jordan, he spoke about his project experience in McKinsey & Company. Logical thinking tools like “Issue Trees” and “MECE” were introduced to deliver service to clients. There were many questions regarding the method of project-goal setting and communication among varying stakeholders.

Next, “Introduction of Systems Engineering and Project Management” was held by Associate Professor Kohtake Naohiko, Keio University. Following Mr. Fukushima’s invited lecture, the importance of overlooking the entire project was emphasized. “You cannot see the wood for the trees.”

In the latter part of the tutorial, 7 student projects were introduced by the team leaders. After the lightning talk, a world café workshop was held to share the main focus and motivation of their research and teams were formed temporary. Towards the 3rd Monthly Tutorial, participants are preparing to finalize the project charter for their research.
