  • CATEGORY: Monthly Tutorial

The 4th Monthly Tutorial was held on July 16th at Komaba Research Campus, The University of Tokyo on the theme “How Far Can We See through the Earth from Space?”

First, we had Wataru Ohira Researcher and Associate Professor Nobuaki Kubo lecture on “Tips to Know for Remote Sensing  -Story of Forest Monitoring-” and “Essence of RTK,” respectively. The former introduced some facts on deforestation and degraded forest in Cambodia, China and Indonesia using free satellite imagery. To enhance research of the projects students are working, 20 websites that provide open satellite data were presented. The latter talk explained about the difference between RTK (Real Time Kinematic) and PPP (Precise Point Positioning), expensive and low-cost receiver and its differing specifications of error source mitigation.

After the lecture, 6 teams reported the progress of their research project. In August, summer school will be held in Kaoyai National Park, Thailand.
